HIMYM Review: Bad Crazy

How I Met Your Mother
'Bad Crazy' Review

In last weeks episode of HIMYM we were introduced to Jeanette. Although she didn't have much air time, we did come to learn that she was a little bit crazy, but it didn't delve into the matter much. This week however we get to learn how crazy this "destined" girl can get. But was a bit too much for the show? Surprisingly I found Jeanette's craziness a little underwhelming and not as mad as I hoped for.

The main plot of this episode co-existed between Ted, Jeanette and to a small degree Marshall and Barney. Not much can be said about the whole Ted and Jeanette situation, it was merely plausible and unfortunately a little bit beyond caring because of the lack of development of this new fling. The only possible explanation for Ted dating this woman was if  he was using the Hot/Crazy scale, an element which was absent from the episode, but definitely could have been beneficial purely for nostalgia sake. There were some funny moments, with the return of the red cowboy boots and Ted acting silly in a Boba Fett outfit, but it was most certainly not laugh out loud hilarious.
What was nice  within this plot though was the playfully silly banter between the three male characters,. It was great to see Barney and Marshall behave like teenagers, particularly in a video game playing scene. It reminds us, the audience that these characters, although in mature relationships, are still Star Wars loving kids. Plus every man behaves the way Ted, Marshall and Barney did in this episode, no matter what their age.

As for Robin, she had a  little fiasco about Marvin and her general fear of babies, which has been brought up in earlier seasons. The whole plot was fairly funny, with a great use of a guest star, but the constant repetition of events did go on for a bit longer than needed.
This side plot had a really nice little conclusion for Robin, which was handled well as no major fuss was made by all the other characters making this all the more grander for Robin.
Based on this series of events it might be interesting to see if the writers travel down the road once more of Robin's inability to have kids and possible alternatives, although it is probably highly unlikely.

It was a decent episode for the majority, but unfortunately it was within the concluding moments with Lily's advice to Ted which instantly dragged the episode down. Firstly it was appalling advice, but the bigger kick in the teeth was that this was clear confirmation of the return of the filler episodes for Ted. Not exactly what a HIMYM fan wants to hear, but at least we are nearly reaching the final hurdle by the sounds of it.

6.9/10
