HIMYM Review: Twelve Horny Women

How I Met Your Mother:
"Twelve Horny Women" Review

Last weeks entry was a fairly solid episode and thankfully this weeks episode followed suit. Twelve Horny Women was a direct continuation of the previous episode, giving the sense that it was almost a two parter. Luckily it was actually beneficial to the progression of Marshall's storyline as there was no break.

For what has probably been the first time in HIMYM history, Marshall had the spotlight in this episode. Although the sitcom is supposed to be the account of Ted Mosby, it was nice to see a different character be on the forefront of events and pushed the point further that this is one of the most important series of events for Marshall in his career. The humour on Marshall's front was fairly subtle, with a few reminders of the type of jokes he has used in the past.
Marshall's old lawyer friend, Brad also played in his most substantial role yet and delivered quite well. The writers did well to implement the reasons behind his actions from the previous episode, which allowed for major fans to reflect on Brad's small part in season 2. Unfortunately the sense of humour that was used with his character was a little bit over the top and certainly unrealistic. It should have been toned down and done in a more realistic manner.
After last weeks abrupt end with Robin and Barney, the situation needed to be resolved. Disappointingly there was no real development, perhaps the writers did not want to direct attention away from Marshall's main arc. But at least their behaviour between one another was true to life.
The side story between Ted, Lily, Barney and Robin was very light hearted and easy to follow. But it felt somewhat cumbersome as the outcomes of each character was inevitable. But it was a nice little piece of banter between the group whilst they waited in between Marshall's arc.
The best moments were towards the end of the episode (A common trend which seems to be appearing this season). The episode went back to its original, realistic, grounded roots. Marshall and Brad's meet up was great and makes me hope that Brad continues to reappear in future episodes.
But even better was the chemistry between Robin and Barney in the final moments. Barney's words were extremely heartfelt and Robins resulting behaviour was dealt with so naturally. Well done to both NPH and Cobie.

Overall it was solid episode. Marshall's plot point kept me interested and left me surprised at the turn of events for his career. Unfortunately the last few moments of absolute greatness created a constant reminder of how the series used to be throughout, without any absurd theatrics in the humour department. Hopefully the old techniques will be revived.
Lastly focus needs to return to Ted again soon. Fair enough for playing a small part in this episode, it worked. But on the larger scale of things this is supposed to be his tale, and at the moment he is ever increasingly becoming hidden in the background.

7.8/10

Sidenote: Major error on behalf of the scriptwriters. Scooter's name is revealed as "Bill" in Season 2, yet says he is called "Jeff" in this episode. come on writers, keep the continuity correct.
